Cameron

Welcome back... to the It's All Team Podcast, where we talk about modern network marketing, for Generation X… not the outdated stuff from 1995.

I’m your host, Cameron.

And today we’re talking about something that stops a lot of good people from ever building momentum in this industry…

And that's... Follow-up!

Not because they don’t care.

Not because they’re lazy.

But because they’re terrified of sounding pushy… annoying… desperate… or salesy.

And if you’re Gen X, chances are you’ve already lived through enough awkward sales experiences to know exactly what I’m talking about.

You send somebody information…

They say they’ll look at it…

Then silence.

Now you’re sitting there wondering…

“Do I message them again?”

“Am I bothering them?”

“What if they think I’m trying to pressure them?”

Meanwhile bills keep going up…

Retirement keeps getting closer…

And deep down you know your job income probably isn’t going to create the future you really want.

You’re running out of time…

And your paycheck knows it.

So today, we’re going to break down how to follow up in a way that feels natural, professional, modern, and human.

And joining me today is special guest speaker Michelle.

Michelle is Gen X.

She's worked regular jobs most of her life.

Tried network marketing the old-school way years ago and hated it.

Now she’s building online using attraction marketing and relationship-based follow-up without chasing people.

Michelle, welcome to the show.

Michelle

Thanks, Cameron.

And honestly… this topic changed everything for me.

Because years ago, I thought follow-up meant convincing people.

I thought I had to “close” people.

I’d send messages like:

“Hey just checking in…”

“Did you watch the video?”

“What did you think?”

“Ready to get started?”

And every message felt uncomfortable.

I sounded nervous because I was nervous.

And people can feel that energy.

Eventually I started avoiding follow-up completely.

Which is funny because I realized later…

Most people don’t fail because they can’t talk.

They fail because they stop talking too soon.

Cameron

That’s huge right there.

A lot of Gen X network marketers were trained with pressure tactics.

Three-way calls.

Hotel meetings.

Memorized scripts.

“Overcome objections.”

And honestly?

Most normal people hate doing that.

Especially today.

People are burned out.

Distrustful.

Overwhelmed with notifications.

Nobody wants another salesperson chasing them around Facebook Messenger.

Michelle

Exactly.

And what changed for me was understanding this:

Follow-up is not pressure.

Good follow-up is leadership.

Most people are distracted.

Busy.

Working jobs.

Taking care of kids.

Paying bills.

Mentally exhausted.

Sometimes they actually want more information…

But life gets in the way.

I know because that was me.

One of the businesses I joined years ago…

I ignored the person for almost three months.

Not because I wasn’t interested.

I was overwhelmed.

But she stayed professional.

Calm.

Helpful.

No pressure.

And eventually I came back.

That changed how I approached people forever.

Cameron

That’s such an important mindset shift.

Because a lot of people listening right now think silence means rejection.

But most of the time?

Silence just means life happened.

And the people who win in this industry understand timing matters.

Concept #1 — Stop “Checking In” and Start Adding Value

Let’s get tactical here.

Michelle, what’s one of the biggest mistakes people make with follow-up?

Michelle

Easy.

They follow up with pressure instead of value.

Most people send messages that basically say:

“So… are you joining or not?”

Even if they don’t mean it that way.

Instead, modern follow-up should feel useful.

Helpful.

Light.

For example:

“Hey I saw this training and thought of you because we talked about creating extra income online.”

That feels different.

Or:

“Hey, this short video explains the exact part you had questions about.”

Now you’re assisting them…

Not chasing them.

Cameron

That’s attraction marketing.

You become a resource instead of a salesperson.

And honestly, Generation X appreciates that.

We don’t want hype.

We want clarity.

Concept #2 — Follow-Up Is About Timing, Not Pressure

Michelle

Another big lesson…

People buy when timing and belief finally meet.

Not when you want them to.

Sometimes somebody watches your content for six months before reaching out.

Sometimes a year.

And here’s what’s crazy…

They often say:

“I’ve been following you for a while.”

Meanwhile you thought they disappeared.

Cameron

That happens all the time online now.

People are quietly watching.

Your videos.

Your posts.

Your consistency.

And every calm, confident follow-up builds trust.

But desperate follow-up destroys trust.

So here’s a rule:

Never follow up emotionally.

Don’t follow up because you need rent money.

Don’t follow up because you’re panicking.

Follow up because you genuinely believe your system could improve someone’s future.

That energy matters.

Concept #3 — Use Simple Follow-Up Systems

Now let’s make this practical for everybody listening.

What’s a simple system Gen X network marketers can actually use?

Michelle

Simple wins.

Here’s what I personally do:

Day 1:

Send the info.

Day 2:

Short message:

“Hey just making sure you got the link.”

That’s it.

No pressure.

Day 4:

Send something useful.

A testimonial.

Short training.

Helpful tip.

Day 7:

Light check-in.

“Totally okay if timing isn’t right. I’m here if questions come up.”

Now the pressure disappears.

And people relax.

Cameron

That’s so much better than chasing people every 12 hours.

And honestly…

The internet changed everything.

Today your content does a lot of the follow-up for you.

Your Facebook posts.

Your Instagram reels.

Your podcast.

Your landing pages.

Your videos.

People keep seeing you.

Which means you don’t have to force conversations anymore.

Michelle

And I think Gen X especially needs to hear this…

You do not need to become some loud internet influencer to win.

You just need consistency.

A calm voice.

A real story.

And a system.

Most people are tired of fake gurus.

They want someone relatable.

Someone who understands job burnout.

Inflation.

Being behind financially.

Feeling like retirement showed up too fast.

That authenticity is actually your advantage.

Cameron

Michelle, this has been incredible.

And for everybody listening today…

If follow-up has felt awkward…

If you’ve been afraid of sounding salesy…

If you’re tired of old-school pressure tactics…

Understand this:

Modern network marketing is about attraction.

Connection.

Systems.

Content.

And leadership.

Not chasing people around.

That’s exactly what we teach inside Its, All, Team.

How to build using modern tools…
